Clatsop Care Health District (CCHD)

Clatsop Care Center Skilled-Nursing, Short-Term and Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Services

Since 1978, Clatsop Care Center has served as the District’s primary skilled nursing and long-term care facility. CCHD is approaching final stages of planning and permitting a state-of-the-art, one story medical facility adjoined to the Clatsop Retirement Village and Assisted Living Facility on Young’s Bay. CCHD’s new structure will replace this historic flagship building in Astoria, built in 1928, that has served the local healthcare community with distinction for nearly a century!

Clatsop In-Home Care is located within the Clatsop Care Center’s skilled-nursing facility and is designed to support independent living at home. Clatsop Care Health District’s (CCHD) in-home care program serves a distinctive needs that aligns with our mission and purpose in keeping our aging population at home in Clatsop County and their families supported.

Clatsop Retirement Village an Assisted Living Facility

Under the direction of Anita Schacher, CCHD Director and Administrator at the time, the need for multiple-tiered caregiving led to the establishment of a Special District, passed by voters in 1994.

In 1999, property was gifted to the Health District by local resident Russel Fluher for the construction and development of the Clatsop Retirement Village Assisted Living Center on the shores of Young’s Bay on Highway 202 in Astoria.

CRV, as it is known, is undergoing plans to be fully remodeled in conjunction with the construction of a new skilled-nursing and rehabilitative care center adjoining it on the property with groundbreaking anticipated in 2027. The Foundation seeks to support this effort with a new art center and are currently in discussion regarding other potential projects.

Clatsop Memory Care Community

Ms. Schacher, though she retired in 2013, continued with the oversight and planning to establish a skilled nursing center for those living with dementia.  In 2014, Clatsop Memory Care was built at a Warrenton location on Dolphin Avenue through a lease-to-own agreement to meet this increasing need.

With new dementia care standards and practices developing increasingly, the Clatsop Memory Community is always seeking innovative ways to improve the quality of care.

Seeking to introduce new programs through applied science and technologies, their staff is fully engaged in the most current and innovative training programs available in their industry. The Foundation seeks to support our Memory Care facility by working with Grant writers to secure funding for  projects that will improve the quality of care for our residents..
